Are your washrooms ready for the next school year?

What’s the current condition of your school’s toilets? While you may consider them to be adequate, have you had a proper look recently? What do your students think?

Good washrooms equals good hygiene, contributing to both better health and educational performance by your students. Helping to reduce the spread of germs, bacteria, and illnesses, creating a safer and more hygienic environment for your pupils and your staff.

So why invest in getting your toilets ready for the start of the next school year? Here are just a few thoughts from the TWC Facilities team.

Stop infections spreading

Your pupils do not have a choice! They must use the toilets and washrooms you provide. If they aren’t well kept there is an increased risk of poor hygiene. A recent research project led by Health Innovation West of England and ERIC, the Children’s Bowel and Bladder Charity, found that 51.01% of participants said that their school toilets were dirty.

Help your pupils concentrate

Pupils will not use your washrooms if they smell, are dirty and the toilet paper has run out. By avoiding them, can your pupils really concentrate in lessons if they need to go?

The Health Innovation West of England and ERIC research project found that 39.29% of participants said that their school toilets were not well maintained (e.g. lack of toilet roll, soaps, locks that work) and that over one third (36.65%) of those surveyed avoided drinking water so they didn’t need to go to the toilet.

Help you students concentrate by having them properly stocked with soap, soap dispensers and toilet roll.

Preserving girls’ dignity

Simple inventions are often the best! Many girls find themselves unprepared when menstruation begins unexpectedly, often without access to period products while away from home. Research reveals that 1 in 5 girls have missed school due to lack of access to these products, and 62% of women have had to leave work for the same reason.

The Egal Pads on a Roll wall-mounted dispenser, available from TWC Facilities not only provides a practical solution but also helps preserve girls’dignity—something invaluable.

Harm your reputation

Students will discuss toilet and washroom facilities with others. Visitors will compare them to their own schools, and families may use them during events. The condition of your facilities will influence the reputation of your school.

Letting down your pupils

Poorly maintained washrooms can lead pupils to question your school’s commitment to their well-being. Pupils look to take pride in their school and its facilities, like how they take pride in their uniforms, sports teams, and accomplishments.

Get ready for the new school year

Maintaining clean washrooms is essential for ensuring hygiene, health, safety, and pupil satisfaction. Proper maintenance, stocking of hand washing supplies like soap and working soap dispensers are all necessary to ensure your washrooms benefit all.
